Switzerland Provides 600 Million Swiss Francs in Subsidies for PV Development in 2023
International Energy Network recently learned that in 2023, Switzerland allocated 600 million Swiss francs per month in subsidies for the development of the solar photovoltaic industry. Not only that, the Swiss government has reserved ample resources to expedite the implementation of local photovoltaic projects without significant waiting times. It is understood that photovoltaic power generation is the second most important renewable energy source in Switzerland after hydroelectric power. In October 2022, Switzerland revised the Energy Act with a focus on ensuring winter power supply emergency measures. The new federal law aims to permit and promote the construction of large ground-mounted photovoltaic systems above 1,500 meters in the Swiss Alps. The Swiss government’s goal is to increase the photovoltaic power generation capacity in the Alps to 2 terawatt-hours through incentive programs.
