LGES Launches Home Energy Storage System for the U.S. Market.

LG Energy Solution (formerly LG Chem) has launched a new home energy storage system called Prime+ with flexible capacity to meet the individual backup needs of American households. Scheduled for official launch in the U.S. in May, Prime+ aims to meet the growing demand from installers and homeowners for home energy storage systems powered by LGES batteries. Prime+ marks the first home energy storage system that includes an inverter, launched under the LGES brand in the North American market. The name “Prime+” suggests that the new battery will be released in September 2023.

The Prime+ storage solution connects two Prime lithium-ion battery modules, either 10H or 16H, in parallel, offering a capacity of 19.2-32kWh, with a maximum inverter output of 9.6kW. The simple modular design of the batteries and the plug-and-play design of the inverter ensure easy installation and unparalleled compatibility with all existing photovoltaic systems. Ryan Simpson, Director of Sales for LGES ESS in North America, stated, “What makes Prime+ unique is that the installation process is faster than ever before. The complete inverter and battery commissioning process takes less than 10 minutes, significantly reducing the time burden on installers.”

Full compatibility with existing photovoltaic systems makes Prime+ an ideal choice for U.S. homeowners looking for partial or whole-home backup solutions. Notably, California residents are expected to benefit from the new solution due to the third iteration of the Net Energy Metering policy (NEM 3.0) taking effect in mid-April.

Prime+ offers two configurations: a backup solution and an arbitrage solution, allowing customers to easily choose the option that best meets their needs. The backup solution includes Prime batteries, an inverter, and an automatic backup device, while the arbitrage solution includes Prime batteries, an inverter, and a smart meter. Specifically, if customers only intend to use Prime+ for self-consumption, the arbitrage solution will be the more cost-effective option.

To ensure durability and customer satisfaction, Prime+ comes with a 10-year warranty for the battery, inverter, and automatic backup device. Before the official launch, LGES is running pilot projects with installers in various locations across the U.S., giving them the opportunity to experience the new state-of-the-art energy storage system firsthand.
